LIBERTY KICKS

We could talk about how long it's been since I last posted or I could just show you my new kicks..
I've had Nike Air Max on my mind since the ones that got away so I'm feeling pretty lucky that I came across this pair today. I start a new job tomorrow and jumped the gun with the pay day treats considering it's a week before pay day. To be honest I only meant to try them on in an effort to convince myself that I didn't need them, but how often does that work? And they were the last pair in my size. Yeah that old excuse.

It's getting colder here and I'm a bit excited about layers again.

Wearing: Liberty x Nike Air Max 1 Hyper Blue, American Apparel Stripe Sweater and Easy Jeans, Zara knitted beanie.

ZARA TRF

When will Zara cotton on to the value of e-commerce in Australia? Because buying from the website and having packages sent to my Mum to send on to me, is a little time consuming...yet completely necessary when it comes to owning yet another dungarees. Thanks Mum.

THE COLOR RUN

If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter or Vine you were probably wondering what I was up to last weekend covered from head to toe in coloured paint! Last Sunday I took part in the The Color Run, the self proclaimed 'happiest 5k on the planet'. Situated at the amazing Sydney Olympic Park, we runners turned up on Sunday in our brightest whites, to walk run, skip and dance 5k while being blasted with colour. You can see the results below. I don't know about the happiest 5k on the planet, but it was certainly the most fun I've ever had 'running' 5k. And better yet a proportion of the registratration fee went to Heart Kids Australia to further the work they do supporting the families of children with heart disease whilst raising awareness and funding vital research into the causes.

NYFW: 3.1 PHILLIP LIM

Phillip Lim for me picked up for Winter where he left off with his Jordan Catalano reminiscent Summer collection (see below if you missed the reference). This time though it's a more luxurious take on grunge, which sees leather, shearling, knits and tailoring layered together with embossed, quilted and embellished details. The hair is subtly dishevelled and loosely swept back, the lips dark and I love that the 'couture sweat' is still around and has moved into a longer length and new fabrications.

Above: AW13 collection
Below: SS13 collection and the fictional Jordan Catalano - I still remain convinced that certain looks from this collection were inspired by hours of My So-Called Life re-runs.

AVO

I wasn't even that into avocado in England, but it's impossible not to be in Sydney - it's on everything, it's locally grown and it tastes amazing. This avocado I got last week was so perfect and bright green I couldn't not post about it.

Avo on Toast
Take one perfectly ripe, soft but firm Aussie avo. Peel and roughly mash, squeeze in a generous amount of lemon juice and grind a liberal amount of black pepper over the top. Mash a bit more until you have a nice bright green colour and a spreadable but still lumpy consistency. Lightly toast a couple of medium - thick slices of fresh Sourdough (or other fresh bread of your choice). Slice up some cherry tomatoes evenly (or not so evenly if you're like me). Spread avo over toast, scatter toms over the top. More black pepper and a little squeeze of lemon over the top. Taste sensation every time in less than 10 minutes.

COCKATOO ISLAND

I've been reading fashion blogs for years and while the bloggers with the increasingly more professional looking photo shoots grow in popularity, my favourites are still those who post mirror shots and bedroom selfies clearly taken with a tripod on self timer. There is something off-putting about holiday photos that look more like a magazine photo spread than an actual holiday. I can only imagine the 'great time' that was had while the photographer/boyfriend/best friend lugged around a variety of cameras and lenses to create those outfit posts everyone seems to love. The (often amazing) locations of these holidays are dismissed as just a background to yet another shoot, appreciated only for how they compliment the outfit or nicely juxtapose. Recently the blogosphere imploded when a fashion blogger took "hey, a backdrop's a backdrop" to a whole new level, posing crassly in front of the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. As ignorant as the idea of shooting an outfit post at a memorial was, it was made worse with the accompanying quote "it doesn't make you think about the past".
WOW.

Living in Sydney I certainly have the opportunity to take outfit posts with beautiful backdrops, but mostly I think it's better just to let the amazing place I live in speak for itself. This is a fashion blog by description, so there will always be an element of me and what I'm wearing but it's all about keeping an element of perspective. With that in mind, last week I visited Cockatoo Island, a World Heritage-listed island in the middle of Sydney Harbour, once home to a convict prison and one of Australia's biggest shipyards. In London, I had my fairshare of the industrial landscape, but to be able to roam freely, exploring abandoned warehouses and timber sheds whilst completely surrounded by water was an incredible opportunity. Below is just a snapshot of my day, I implore you to visit if you find yourself Sydney side.

BEYHIVE

Not content with Tumblr, putting a ring on it or being a Mum, Beyoncé has now turned her hand to blogging. Now I'm not particularly celeb obsessed (I found out about Taylor and Harry when it was already over), but I loved Beyoncé's Tumblr and I have a feeling I'm going to love the blog just as much, for the same reasons I love The Selby and The Coveteur. Who doesn't like a little nosy into other people's lives? Beyhive let's us in on what Bey (for I feel we are on nickname basis now) is watching (Beasts of the Southern Wild), hearing (Jessie Ware), wearing (Giraffe Walk shoes) and inspired by (Obama). Nice additions are a street style page curated by her stylist and a page dedicated to fan art.

FUNNY TUMMY

British artist Funny Tummy first came to my attention when one of my friends bought a couple of his prints but it was only when I started following his Instagram (@funnytummyart) that I realised how I loved his work. Save for his work, little information can be found online of Funny Tummy himself (a little digging told me his real name is Shawn Earl Lee) but who needs to know the details, the work speaks for itself. (And apparently RiRi agrees).

All images from funnytummyart.com where prints and original art are available for purchase.

SATIREGRAM

My new favourite Instagram. No pictures, just words. It's funny how original we all think we're being when we're really just not. I've definitely done more than half of these!
