BEYHIVE

Not content with Tumblr, putting a ring on it or being a Mum, Beyoncé has now turned her hand to blogging. Now I'm not particularly celeb obsessed (I found out about Taylor and Harry when it was already over), but I loved Beyoncé's Tumblr and I have a feeling I'm going to love the blog just as much, for the same reasons I love The Selby and The Coveteur. Who doesn't like a little nosy into other people's lives? Beyhive let's us in on what Bey (for I feel we are on nickname basis now) is watching (Beasts of the Southern Wild), hearing (Jessie Ware), wearing (Giraffe Walk shoes) and inspired by (Obama). Nice additions are a street style page curated by her stylist and a page dedicated to fan art.

FUNNY TUMMY

British artist Funny Tummy first came to my attention when one of my friends bought a couple of his prints but it was only when I started following his Instagram (@funnytummyart) that I realised how I loved his work. Save for his work, little information can be found online of Funny Tummy himself (a little digging told me his real name is Shawn Earl Lee) but who needs to know the details, the work speaks for itself. (And apparently RiRi agrees).

All images from funnytummyart.com where prints and original art are available for purchase.

SATIREGRAM

My new favourite Instagram. No pictures, just words. It's funny how original we all think we're being when we're really just not. I've definitely done more than half of these!

RESOLUTIONS

It's taken me two weeks and a short holiday but I've finally settled on my resolutions for 2013:

1. Cook food worthy of Instagramming
Ok this is really just 'eat more healthily' same as everyone else - crossed with 'cook more' as cooking has become a bit of a lapsed pastime since I moved. And we all know that food that looks good tastes good and must be good for you right?

2. Read novels. Lots of them.
When I was a kid I earned the nickname ‘Matilda’ because my nose was always in a book and I am pretty sure my short-sightedness is owed to many a night spent reading with a torch under my duvet, so it frustrates me that I don’t find the time to read novels anymore. I still read, I can get lost on the internet for hours reading recipes I’ll never cook (I will now, see resolution #1), reading blogs about fashion, travel, being a Mum and not being a Mum, I even read book reviews and make lists of novels I would read if only I had the time. This year I’m going to make the time. So apparently we have more chance of succeeding with our resolutions if we make them SMART, therefore let's say 52 weeks = 26 books.
Currently reading: Catch Me If You Can by Frank Abagnale Jr.
Completed this year so far:
Looking for Alaska by John Green
The Other Daughter by Lisa Gardner
Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
Hana: A Delirium Short Story by Lauren Oliver

3. New project
I’ve been building websites since I was 15, moved from Geocities to envy.nu to having my own domain name and so on until I started this blog. When I began, Hard to Chase was a fashion blog and this was my project. Over the last six months I’ve become a bit bored of the tried and tested fashion blogger formula both in other blogs and my own and Hard to Chase has evolved into something a little more personal. I’ve decided I quite like it that way so look forward to move of what I did I that weekend and a little less of what I wore or bought (but still some of that too). I’d also like to spend more time actually writing here, which is why I started this in the first place. So not so much a new project but a revamp.

4. Learn to use my DSLR properly
It’s embarrassing how rubbish I am with my camera though to give myself some credit I did take a bloody good shot of Sydney fireworks if I do say so myself. However I find that probably more than half of my really good photographs are a result of fluke rather than technique or repeatedly pushing buttons and changing settings until I get the required result. I think this resolution will fit in very nicely with resolution #3.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Two views of my New Year celebrations - New Years Eve with a view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and harbour and the incredible firework display. New Years Day party at a secret beach with the sun setting behind the city skyline. Sydney at its best. Who would have thought 12 months ago, this is where I would be? Let's hope 2013 is just as suprising and amazing.

Happy New Year everyone.
