ZEN

I got up early on Saturday to start The Big Room Clearout which happens about once year, the idea being you go through every drawer, cupboard, shelf etc and take everything out/off and only put back the things you really need. The result? Well a feng shui expert would probably say something about zen living but I say change is as good as rest. Plus it's nice to be able to see everything I own rather than spending 10 minutes searching for something, only to find it at the bottom of an unidentfiable pile or stuffed in a drawer full of other objects of no relation. 4 hours later my room was decidedly more er, zen and I hadn't even started on the clothes. I did however find some better ways of storing my mountains (and I mean mountains) of jewellery.

MAXIMISE

Maxi length became my length of choice following my holiday where I fell in love with my Supertrash jumpsuit, perfect for sashaying to dinner, followed by a daiquiri or two from my favourite barman (not suited to beach parties mind, for which a quick change was necessary). Maxi skirts however used to remind me of my Mum and working in Retail Hell (a.k.a Jigsaw), but suddenly I find myself wanting to wear one. With some stomping boots of course.

LOVE #2

I left the house today to go to post office and run a couple of simple errands and be back home within the hour. But somehow I ended up in Borders, soaking up the sun in their best window seat and reading the latest issue of Love magazine from cover to cover. It's better than the first issue I think, Katie did good.

I fucking love Pixie Geldof.

BLOGGER TREND

Ashish for Topshop. No doubt set to be this season's Emma Cook boot as far as the blogosphere is concerned.

THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE

I was watching reruns of The Hills last week and Kelly Cutrone made a comment along the lines of 'any serious fashion girl would have received that phone call and run straight back to the office, even if she was getting engaged she would have been like "nice ring, I have to go"'. You would be forgiven for thinking that perhaps the phone call in question was the Red Cross calling in from some war torn location for emergency life saving medication, but actually no it was just Lauren calling from a Smashbox shoot looking for a box nude clothing it would appear had accidentally been left behind (of course said box of clothing being the only clothing that could possibly work for the shoot, despite the fact they had several other boxes of clothing to choose from). I started thinking, what makes fashion so important to so many people? Everyone I know in fashion works really hard, often long hours, not very often well paid, all in the hope of one day reaching the great heights of Buying Director/Fashion Editor/Head of PR. Everyone I know who doesn't work in fashion but wants to will do pretty much anything to get that foot in the door.

11th September marks the release of The September Issue which goes behind the scenes at Vogue and exposes the reality of one of fashion's most coveted jobs, Fashion Editor at Vogue. The strapline "Fashion is a religion. Vogue is the bible" would be funny if it wasn't true. I've just spent the best part of an hour reading about it on the TFS and watching clips and I'm as intrigued as the next person as to whether Anna Wintour is the dragon she is perceived to be - To be honest from the numerous clips I've watched so far, she doesn't seem that bad? Critical, tough, opinionated yes, but wouldn't you expect that from someone at the top of their industry? Or maybe I've just been working in Fashion for too long. I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the film in its entirety.

SHOPPING BAN. TAKE TWO

I don't know what it is about about holidays (having the time to reflect I suppose) which makes me return to England wanting to be a different person to when I left. Once again, despite vowing last year it would never happen again, I over packed for my holiday. I am now quite sure I definitely don't need anything new for the forseeable future and as a result I am embarking once again on the Shopping Ban. Last year I managed to afford a trip to Paris with the money I would have spent in a month on clothes, lets see how well I do this year. I am already considering purchasing this acid wash parka as one final hurrah before I start, but then that would be defeating the object wouldn't it. It's also not helping that Antipodium has launched on ASOS.com this week, including the denim jacket dress I wore for my catwalk debut. It could be a long month.
